On Memorial weekend, Cruizin’ with the oldies hosts a few car shows across Casper, WY. Old meets new at the Mopar car show held at the Fremont Motors Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram dealership.
Despite the somewhat depressing weather with heavy intermittent rain, enthusiasts still brought out their beautiful machines.
Planning for these events happens months in advance, and whilst the weather can never be guaranteed on the day, some bright colored cars can.
Glen Wise and his 1970’s Plymouth Road Runner
Glenn Wise of Casper brought out his 1970’s Plymouth Road Runner. Wise bought the car just 6 months prior to the show but had spent several years looking for just the right one.
He said he knew he wanted a Road Runner, but it had to be the 4speed in Hemi Orange, have the pistol grip and air grabber.
Wise flew out to Wisconsin to look at the vehicle and returned a couple of weeks later to haul the car back.
He plans to keep the car forever, adding that it was restored in 1988 and has only had 2k miles on it since then.
The previous owner had for 28 years and said it had never been on a gravel road or touched by rain. “I fixed that!”, laughed Wise.
We asked, what is it like to drive and why did you choose a Road Runner? “It’s fun to drive, it’s a blast,” he said. “The appeal of the Road Runner comes from the history behind the vehicle”.
Wise then told us, in the late 60s, Plymouth decided to compete with other manufacturers producing muscle cars.
It had to be lightweight, fast and cheap. Sticker price on the Road Runner was $2860.
James Cordonier II and his 1970 Challenger R/T
Other enthusiasts enjoy the ‘challenge’ (pun intended) of building classics from the ground up.
James Cordonier II, also from Casper, WY. build his 1970 Challenger R/T from just the mid-section.
The car had no trunk or front end. It takes a lot of time and commitment for one to take on such a project.
Cordonier said it had taken him around 10 years to get the car where it is today. You would never guess that it started as a pile of parts.
Amazingly he also still has the original build sheet for the main part of the vehicle he started with, and today, the car is immaculate.
46 years of muscle heritage is shown in the photo below when old meets new.
Results from the show and shine competition are as follows;
Class 100: 1960 & Older
Class 200: 1961-1980
Class 300:1981-Present
