Technically they are called Multicontour Seats with Active Motion®.
Front driver and passenger seats equipped with multicontour Active Motion®, Ford says, are designed to help reduce muscle and leg tiredness. Along with helping blood flow to avoid back pain.
In the back part of the seat there are 3 pads that provide a lumbar, ‘rolling pattern’ message. The seat base also has pads that move up and down to massage.
Buttons to activate the seat are on the side/bottom next to the power controls that move the seat forward and backward etc. On some trucks, the multicontour seats can be activated through the Sync touchscreen system. Once activated the seats will stay actively moving for 20 minutes unless turned off manually.
Which Ford trucks have the ‘massage’ seats?
2018 Ford F-150 King Ranch trims have the multicontour seats with active motion as an option (601a package). They are standard on the F-150 Platinum and F-150 Limited trims (ie. the top of the line trucks).
On 2018 Super Duty pickup trucks, they are available on the F-250 King Ranch as part of the King Ranch Ultimate Package. This package also includes LED fog lamps and taillamps, quad LED headlamps, Blind-Spot Monitor, Cross Traffic Alert and Trailer Tow. A twin panel moonroof, tailgate step, and power running boards are also included in the King Ranch Ultimate package. The ‘massage’ seats are standard on the Platinum and Limited trim levels, the same as the F-350.
Which Ford cars have the Multicontour seats?
The 2018 Ford Explorer Platinum (top of the range) comes with the multicontour driver and passenger seats as standard. New 2018 Ford Expeditions also have the multicontour seats available in the Platinum trim level. Some older model Taurus’ had them too.

Truck Towing Capacity
How much weight a pickup truck can pull can vary hugely, even between two pickups that look identical. That’s why finding out your towing capacity by VIN is more accurate. Factors that can affect a pickup truck towing capability include:
- Engine Type
- Axle Ratios
- Transmissions
- Chassis
- Suspension
- Tires and load ratings
- Hitch type and class
- Trailer type
Calculating towing capacity
With so many variables between truck builds and manufacturers, it can take a few minutes to figure out exactly what the max towing capacity of your specific vehicle is. The combined weight of your truck plus trailer and cargo should not exceed the max tow capacity. You’ll need some information from the VIN or door sticker on the truck.
- GVWR – Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (how much weight your vehicle with passengers, fuel, and cargo can carry).
- GCWR- Gross Combined Weight Rating (the max total weight of everything combined, ie. your truck, passengers, trailer and cargo).
- GAWR- Gross Axle Weight Rating (the amount of weight that can be placed over each axle).
- Curb Weight- This is how much your vehicle weight without anyone in it or any cargo.
- Tongue Weight- How much weight the hitch can handle.
Some owners manuals may have towing capacities in there, however, some of the newer ones don’t due to the variations on each truck build.
Towing capacity formula
- Find out curb weight (on VIN sticker).
- Add the weight of passengers, fuel, and cargo to the curb weight.
- Subtract this number from your vehicle’s GCWR ( you may have to look this up using your VIN if it’s not on the door sticker).
- This is your max towing capacity.
- Check to make sure the hitch can also handle this weight.

Can you flat tow a 2018 Jeep?
Below is a list of 2018 4×4 Jeep models and whether they can be flat towed or not. Checking your owners manual for your specific vehicle is always a good idea before attempting to tow. A link to the Jeep owners manuals is provided at the bottom of this article. Manufacturer warranty will not cover damage to vehicles due to incorrect towing.
What is flat towing?
Also known as ‘dinghy towing’ or ‘four down’ towing. ‘Four down’ because the vehicle being towed has all four wheels down on the ground behind an RV or another vehicle.

The long-awaited Ford F-150 Power Stroke diesel is finally coming to showrooms in Wyoming and Nebraska!
Ford F-150 Powerstroke Diesel in front of the Scottsbluff monument, Nebraska
Other manufacturers such as RAM Trucks have had the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel around for a while. Chevrolet has their smaller Duramax diesel engine in their compact pickup truck, the Colorado. GMC has it in the sister truck, the Canyon. Chevy currently do not have a diesel option in a half-ton truck. So for the longest time, RAM was the only manufacturer making a half-ton diesel. Now the game is changing and Ford has brought out the F-150 Power Stroke diesel to the market.
The first of the diesel F-150’s for the Fremont Motors Group arrives at the Fremont Ford and Lincoln Scottsbluff dealership. More are on the way for other Fremont Ford dealership throughout Wyoming too. We got to see a sneak peek of the new F-150 diesel truck last year at the Denver Auto Show.
Fuel economy,
Ford boasts, “2018 F-150 3.0-liter Power Stroke® diesel has a best-in-class EPA-estimated fuel economy rating of 30 mpg highway.” According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the F-150 diesel gets 30mpg, in a 2WD configuration. The 4WD F-150 diesel gets an estimated 20 mpg in the city, 25 mpg on the highway and 22 mpg combined.
Towing
Ford has said in a press release that the truck is “best-in-class 11,400 pounds of towing capacity and 2,020 pounds of payload capacity, plus best-in-class diesel 250 horsepower and 440 lb.-ft. of torque.” Manufacturers usually calculate their max towing capacities based one the lightest base model truck as this give the highest rating.”
Choosing a pickup truck for towing.
Trim levels
The all-new 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel on the F-150 will be optional on the top 3 trims; Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum with the SuperCab or SuperCrew in 4WD. The diesel will not be an option on the Regular Cab or the 163.7″ wheelbase. (This is the SuperCab with the 8′ box).

Laura Hofstad
Update 3/5/2019: Laura Hofstad is now a finance coordinator.
Laura Hofstad is a Sales Consultant at the Fremont Motor Fiat, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram Trucks dealership in Casper, WY.
We interviewed her to find out a little more, here are the questions we asked;
Where were you born and raised?
“Casper, Wyoming! I’ve lived a couple of other places, but I always come back,” said Laura. What draws you back to Casper, we asked. “I would say family first and foremost, economy and community.”
How long have you worked in the Auto Industry?
“I think I’m on my fifth year, this year”.
What is your favorite part of the job?
“Outside of the product, I would say the everyday experience dealing with people and helping people. Also, the auto family I have gained over the years.”
Is it different being a female sales consultant in the auto industry?
“Yes and no. The industry has come a long way in terms of diversity. To any women in our world, we know you’ve got to have a light, an open mind, and tough skin.”
Biggest achievement?
“I thought you were going to ask me this, and definitely being salesperson of the month was an awesome accomplishment. I do, however, think, that being a thriving saleswoman in the automotive industry is an everyday accomplishment.”
Growing up as a child, what did you want your career to be?
“oh man. I don’t know. Actually, I think I wanted to be a teacher of some sort or a psychiatrist.
When you aren’t working, what are you doing?
“I enjoy hanging out with friends and family. I just got an Enduro,(street legal dirt bike, which I’ll get out of these days!) Tennis is fun and I enjoy jammin’ to some good music.”

Speaking of music. What kind of music do you like?
“That’s tough. I either get drawn to alternative, a little bit chiller stuff but still makes me happy, or old blue’s. I’ve been on a ‘Leon Bridges‘ and ‘The Oh Hellos‘ kick recently.
What is your favorite food?
“Spaghetti!”
What is your favorite Color?
“I would have to say blue or black. When it comes to clothes, black.”
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
“I would say, probably moving halfway across the country with just a car and nothing set in stone. Did know what I was going to be doing or who I was going to be there with or even for how long. Super spontaneous and risky.”
What was your first car?
“haha, my very first car was a 1992 (same year as me) Oldsmobile Achieva.”

What is a VIN Number?
VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number. This is a unique number made up of 17 characters used to describe a vehicle. You can decode a VIN to find out more about your car or truck.
Even though the N represents the word number, a lot of people still refer to it as the VIN Number.
Every vehicle since 1981 (except some imports) have VIN Numbers. Each one consists of a code of 17 digits. This code of digits is different for each and every vehicle on the planet (unless there are aliens somewhere with vehicles, I’m not sure about them).
Dealerships, insurance companies, parts suppliers, authorities, and potential buyers all use a VIN. This brings up the information needed to identify the vehicle. It is usually used as the base information to evaluate a car or truck too. CARFAX and Autocheck will also have information related to the VIN number of each vehicle, such as accident reports.
Find your vehicle’s VIN
This VIN sticker is on the driver’s door jamb of a Ford pickup truck
The easiest place to find a vehicle identification number is on the outside bottom of the windshield on the driver’s side. Look to the very bottom of the windshield to read it. There will also be a sticker on the side of the driver’s door, or on the inside of the driver’s side pillar or bulkhead.
VIN’s are also be stored within electronic devices within newer cars and trucks for security reasons.
How to decode a VIN?
WMI
Digits 1 through 3 combined is the WMI, (World Manufacturer Identifier).
The first digit of the VIN number is the country of origin or final processing plant. For example, numbers, 1, 4 and 5 represent the U.S. 2 is Canada and the number 3 represents Mexico. The Society of Automotive Engineers are the ones who assign WMI’s to countries and manufacturers. Next is the digit that represents the manufacturer, for example, ‘G’ is for General Motors, ‘C’ can be Chrysler and ‘B’ for BMW.
The third digit combined with the first two may identify the type of vehicle, such as whether it is a truck, SUV or car. For example, a Chevrolet truck VIN would start as ‘1GC’. 1 for the US as the country of origin, G for General Motors and C for Truck.
Vehicle Descriptor
Digits 4 through 8 represent the vehicle descriptor section.
This is information such as model type, restraint types, body type, engine, and transmission.
Check Digit
Digit 9 is a check digit.
The 9th digit is like a security code, called a check digit. It is a code number/letter the manufacturer generates to verify authenticity of the whole number.
Vehicle Identification Section (VIS)
Digits 10 through 17 is the Vehicle Identifier Section.
The 10th digit is the model year. This table below is a good quick guide to years. So if the 10th digit is a ‘D’ this means the vehicle is a 2013 model.
https://support.alldata.com/alldata-repair-online-article/vin-to-year-chart
Plant Code
The 11th digit is the manufacturer’s plant code.
Vehicle manufacturers all have their own unique codes for which plant the car, truck, or SUV’s are built.
Production Number
Digits 12 through 17 digits are numbers the vehicle gets as it rolls through the production line.
These numbers are usually sequential. For example, the very first of that vehicle might end in 000001.
Letters not used in a VIN
The letters I, O and Q are not used.
