2019 Chevrolet Silverado Adds 2.7L Turbo Engine Choice
The Chevy Silverado engine choices include a 4.3L V6 EcoTec3, a 5.3L V8 EcoTec3, and the 6.2L V8 EcoTec3. Now, the 4 cylinder, 2.7L turbo engine will replace the 4.3L V6. This will now be the standard engine option on the 2019 Silverado 1500 on LT and RST trim levels.

Benefits of the 2.7L turbo engine
Better fuel economy
The turbocharged inline 4 will add better fuel economy than the 4.3L V6. Although official EPA fuel economy figures are not yet available on their website. Chevy said in their press release, estimates are around 23 mpg on the highway for two-wheel drive models. There is no mention of four-wheel drive fuel economy yet.
Lighter
The overall weight of the truck is reduced, compared to the 4.3L (380 lbs less). Construction consists of an aluminum block and cylinder head along with aluminum alloy pistons (with cast iron ring groove). The crankshaft and connecting rods are made of forged steel. Production of the engine will be at the General Motors Spring Hill facility in Tennessee.
All-new 2.7L Turbo with Active Fuel Management and stop/start technology paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission (SAE-certified at 310 hp/348 lb-ft), Photo: Chevrolet
Performance
More horsepower and torque is available. Power output for the 2.7L turbo engine is 310 hp and 348 lb-ft torque. This is 25 more horsepower and 43 lb-ft more torque than the 4.3L. 0-60 mph times, Chevy says is less than 7 seconds.
Turbocharged engines perform better at altitude
“The high-altitude performance of a turbocharged engine is significantly better”, says BorgWarner. “…the power loss of a naturally aspirated engine is considerable.” Something to consider when living in a Rocky Mountain state such as Wyoming or Colorado.
Transmission
This time, the engine is paired with a Hydra-Matic 8-speed automatic transmission, versus a 6-speed automatic.
Dual-volute turbocharger
Chevrolet says this 2.7L turbo engine is specifically designed for truck use. The dual-volute system allows the turbine to spool up faster creating more boost, and thus, increased lower end torque.
Start/Stop Technology
Standard on most new vehicles now. The Start/Stop system shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stationary. For example, whilst waiting at a stop light, the engine will stop (accessories will still run, such as the radio). When the driver removes their foot off the brake pedal, the engine re-starts. This helps save on fuel and emissions.

Would you Rebel 12 times at a Rodeo with a Mojave Power Wagon?
Just kidding, not really a question, but those are the three new editions coming from RAM Trucks. The Rebel 12, Rodeo Edition and the Mojave Power Wagon.
Information on these trucks was released in September 2018, the same month that is a record month for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. “Our Ram and Jeep brands propelled both our retail and total sales to their highest levels in 18 years,” said Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. Sales. Perhaps part of those results is that RAM Trucks is listening to what customers want, and these three editions just might attest to that. What do you think?
RAM Rebel 12

The all-new 2019 RAM 1500 redesign includes the Rebel. The RAM Rebel is the 1500 (half-ton) off-road spec pickup truck. Part of the new design for the truck included the interior of which one of the biggest (literally) features is the 12″ infotainment screen. This was initially not available on the Rebel model. However, after hearing people comment on how they wish the Rebel had the 12″ screen, RAM Trucks listened and made it happen. Hello, Rebel 12.
“Customers have been asking for additional high-end features on Rebel and now we’re delivering with benchmark technology and materials wrapped in off-road capability,” says Jim Morrison, Head of RAM Brand

The Rebel 12 is a special edition truck that will feature the latest UConnect technology on the 12″ color screen. The touchscreen is reconfigurable and even has a split screen mode. You can check out navigation maps and radio info all at the same time. Sirius XM with 360L is also available. A leather-trimmed interior and a 19 speaker Harmon Kardon speaker system will also be added to the Rebel 12 edition. Rebel trucks already come with a locking rear diff, factory lift, Bilstein shocks, skid plates and 33″ tires. Built in Michigan, the Rebel 12 will be arriving at dealerships during the last quarter of 2018.
Rodeo Edition
Based on the Laramie Longhorn truck, the Rodeo edition includes more trailering features and some Southwestern luxury. Available in the heavy-duty line-up, (2500 and 3500) the Rodeo edition also gets body colored bumpers and side steps. For towing the truck will come with a 5th wheel/gooseneck prep package and the center high mount stop lamp with bed camera. Being able to see the inside of the bed on camera makes it a lot easier to back up and align the trailer.

Rodeo Editions will be available in Walnut Brown, Brilliant Chrystal Black, Bright White, Pearl White, Granite Crystal Metallic and Delmonico Red. Duallys will get 17″ polished aluminum wheels, whilst the single rear wheel trucks get 20″ aluminum wheels. The 20″ wheels will have the option of painted pockets or not. A suede headliner and “LONGHORN” badging across the tailgate adds to the luxury.
Mojave Power Wagon
The RAM Power Wagon is a heavy duty off-road pickup truck that comes standard with features such as skid plates, sway bar disconnect, and a winch. It also stands out from other trucks having not just a rear locking differential, but also a front locking differential. One of the most popular colors, on the half-ton off-road (Rebel) truck, will be available on the Power Wagon. Mojave Sand is a color that has never previously been offered on any of the heavy-duty trucks from RAM. This will be a limited edition truck only available through the final quarter of 2018. Mojave Sand packages will be an extra $795 and limited to 1500 trucks made.

What is a Ford F-150 Raptor?
If you’re not yet familiar with the beast of an F-150, which is called the Raptor, it’s a 450hp off-road pickup truck. The SVT Raptor first arrived on the scene in 2010. Production stopped in 2014 but was started back up in 2017. SVT, by the way, stands for Special Vehicle Team. Ford gathered a group of driving enthusiasts along with key suppliers to create specialized vehicles for a niche market. That’s how the Raptor began, but it is no longer badged as an SVT. In 2014, Ford merged their performance divisions together to create, ‘Ford Performance’. The new division “…will unify SVT, Team RS, and Ford Racing as a single, cohesive global brand”. said Alex Nunez from Road and Track.
New for 2019 Ford F-150 Raptor
Although the Raptor is already a well equipped off-road truck, there will be some additional features added for the 2019 model year.
Off-Road Cruise Control
A new system, called Trail Control™ which will essentially be a cruise control for off-road applications between 1 and 20 mph (depending on driveline positioning). The system will use engine torque to tackle steep terrain. Automatic braking and power distribution can also be applied to each individual wheel. This makes it easier for the driver to concentrate on steering.

Recaro Seats
Normally found in sports cars, the 2019 Ford Raptor will get a set of plush bolstered Recaro seats. Ford says the seats provide ‘aggressive support’ to keep you firmly in position whilst driving. Blue Alcantara stitching and accents complete the design, inspired by the Ford GT Supercar.

New Colors
Velocity Blue, Ford Performance Blue, and Agate Black are new colors for the 2019 Ford F-150 Raptor.
Fox Suspension
Ford also stated in their press release that, “While Raptor has plenty of torque and horsepower, building a high-performance off-road truck isn’t just about engine power – it’s also about the suspension. Raptor’s suspension upgrades make it even more capable of clawing away at the terrain.”
Fox Suspension as standard on the 2019 Raptor, Photo: Ford
Raptors will get the FOX™ 3.0 Internal Bypass shocks that come with ‘Live Valve’ technology. Sensors are placed around the body of the truck and in the suspension to calculate and adjust the suspension for maximum comfort. Ford says that,
the suspension even knows when the truck is in the air
and will set the dampers to full stiffness for when the trucks lands. Presumably, because you don’t want to be bounced into oblivion upon landing.

Coming to Wyoming
With the Ford F-150 Raptor being a niche vehicle, they can be tricky to find. Luckily, Fremont Motors in Wyoming so far has two 2019’s on the way. To find out more contact Fremont Motor Riverton or Fremont Motor Ford in Sheridan, WY.

Dinosaurs in Wyoming
Wyoming is steeped in dinosaur history. Wyohistory.org states that the first Jurassic mammal (Dryolestes) was discovered in Wyoming back in the 1870’s. Since then, many other discoveries of Jurassic fossils have been found in Wyoming. A Diplodocus was found in 1899 near Medicine Bow, which, Scottish philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie had several replicas made of. These replicas were then sent to Museums in the U.K. and other parts of the World. This was a pivotal moment in history given this was the first time many people were able to see the mount of a dinosaur.
Other discoveries of dinosaurs in Wyoming include; Apatosaurus, Allosaurus, Supersaurus vivianae, Tyrannosaurus rex, as well as tracks from the likes of Pterosaurs‘.
The children’s movie, “The Good Dinosaur” is set in Wyoming.

Toyota Land Cruiser and Tundra’s perfect for Wyoming terrain.
During this summer, world-renowned Paleontologists Dr. Phil Manning and Dr. Victoria Egerton came to northern Wyoming to survey an ‘undisclosed’ site. Accompanied by a team from the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, they made their journey across the rugged Wyoming terrain in a Land Cruiser and a couple of Tundra’s provided by Toyota U.S.A.
“It’s an off-road adventure through a rough and tumble world that existed millions of years ago, at a time when there was a salt water sea covering the area we’re presently exploring,” said Paleontologist Manning “What the sea left behind was rugged terrain and steep slopes that are extremely hard and sometimes dangerous to traverse. Some of the bones we are discovering weigh hundreds of pounds and are brittle and very fragile. So, it’s imperative we excavate and transport them safely in vehicles that can smoothly handle the rough landscape. We are very grateful Toyota is helping us preserve a very important slice of history.”
Funnily enough, the Toyota Land Cruiser is the original vehicle in the movie, “Jurassic Park“.
The Toyota Land Cruiser is part of the team
The discoveries won’t be staying in Wy.
The team says they have discovered several animals dating back to millions of years ago and are, “hot on the trail” of multiple dinosaurs in Wyoming. The bones will go back to the 500,000sq.ft. Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.
