There isn’t a whole of vehicles to choose from if you want a wagon-like one. In other parts of the world, they are called ‘estate’ vehicles and actually fairly popular due to the practicality of them whilst maintaining car size handling and performance.
The Buick Regal has been around for years including the Buick Regal GS, the sporty, street sleeping turbo model. Now Buick is bringing out a wagon edition, the Regal TourX, that will give the functionality of an SUV but drivability of a car.
The TourX has limited competition in terms of crossover wagons. There are basically no domestic brands offering anything like it. The Chrysler Magnum in no longer made. Volvo, Subaru, Audi and BMW have wagons, however, the Buick will have, “…up to 73.5 cubic feet behind the front seats”. “…giving it more overall cargo space” than the competitors.
With a 2.0L turbocharged engine produces 250hp and 295lb-ft torque. The TourX will have an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard. Those figures are admirable for a car. With an active twin clutch, Buick says this car will be fun to drive and practical. “Buick’s innovative new system uses two clutches at the rear wheels for seamless, smart torque distribution. Beneficial not just in snowy weather but also during spirited driving, the system relies less on braking to maintain maximum performance and efficiency”.
Here’s one feature that really caught our attention. Buick has introduced a new active hood pedestrian safety system. If you absolutely must play chicken, running out in front of cars, choose a Buick TourX. The system “…senses the imminent impact of a pedestrian between 16-30 mph and uses a pyrotechnic actuator to lift the back of the hood up about 4 inches to lessen the impact and potentially reduce injury”. It would be interesting to know if it worked for deer!
Buick hasn’t release fuel consumption figures yet. Given that its design is more slender design than a SUV one could guess that aerodynamics are going to better, therefore better fuel consumption than a big boxy SUV. For Wyoming and Nebraska, this will be a good car.
