Dodge, what’s with the bright colors?
If you drive past a Dodge dealership or even visit a dealership, you might notice a rather colorful palette of vehicles. It’s not the usual sea of boring depressing ‘safe’ vehicle colors like gray, black, silver and white. Red is about as exciting and daring you would normally see on a lot. Well not anymore. Dodge are being the brave manufacturer to bring out some happy/daring colors. It definitely brightens up the place that’s for sure.
If you’re going to get a vehicle you love, why not get it in the color you love?
In 1969, Dodge came out with “High Impact Colors” for muscle cars. Some of these colors became legendary, such as; Plum Crazy, Go Mango, Sublime, and Panther Pink. With retro styling on the modern day version of cars such as the challenger and charger, the colors really stand out. If you have a challenger, you might want to stand out! “Integral to this movement is La Shirl Turner, Head of Colors and Materials at FCA US LLC. Turner says that the heritage around the Dodge name is what made it so important to bring these colors back.”
“Impact colors really speak to Dodge Heritage,” said Turner. “And providing the customer with a color that is eye-catching, gives them what they want — to get noticed.” Source 1
What about the paint color names?
What is the inspiration behind names like Top Banana, Go Mango, Sassy Grass, Plum Crazy and White Knuckle? According to Dodge, it’s an emotional deal. Let’s face it, buying a muscle car is an emotional deal. You don’t buy one because its practical, you buy it because you love it and it’ll make you happy.
“Our heritage-inspired paint names are just one example of how the Dodge brand attitude is in everything we do, even a simple detail like a color name,” says Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands, Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and Fiat – FCA North America. “This is more than just a catchy way to call out our paint. These names connect with our customers, speaking to their personality, their car passion and their love of Dodge.” Source 2
