An all-new crossover from Toyota , the 2021 Venza slots right in between the RAV4 and the Highlander. Seating up to 5 people, this crossover comes standard as a hybrid and standard with AWD.
2021 Venza Highlights
Fuel Economy
The Venza is exclusively a hybrid, with a 2.5L four-cylinder engine and three electric motors the crossover has 219 total system horsepower. Toyota estimates fuel economy in the 40mpg combined range in the LE trim.
Featuring a sequential shifting transmission, an increase in regenerative braking is achieved through downshifting.
2021 Venza’s have a system called Predictive Efficient Drive (PED) which uses driving habits along with navigation to optimize battery usage. “When approaching a downhill section, for example, the system is designed to apply additional engine braking force to more efficiently charge the hybrid battery after the accelerator pedal is released,” says Toyota. Venza’s do not need to be plugged in.
Safety
As with all new Toyota’s, a host of safety features come as standard with Toyota Safety Sense. For the Venza, Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.0 (TSS 2.0) includes;
- Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control
- Automatic High Beams
- Road Sign Assist
- Lane Tracing Assist
- Blind Spot Monitoring
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist
- Pre-Collision System with Daytime/Low-Light Vehicle and Pedestrian Detection
XLE and Limited trims will also have Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automated Braking.
Toyota also says with the 2021 Venza being built on the TNGA-K platform, the AWD crossover is expected to achieve top NHTSA ratings.
Infotainment
Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Amazon Alexa compatibility with access to Siri for Apple users and Google Assistant for Android users are available. Bluetooth wireless technology and, of course, AM/FM radio, as well as a free trial of Sirius XM for three months, comes standard. A one-year trial subscription to Toyota’s Safety Connect also comes on the 2021 Venza.
LE and XLE models get an 8-inch touchscreen and 6-speaker audio system. Venza Limited models feature a 12.3″ touchscreen with a premium JBL audio system and dynamic navigation. XLE’s will have the option of upgrading to the JBL audio, Toyota’s most powerful audio system yet. Designed exclusively for the Venza, the audio system has 9 speakers including a rear subwoofer powered by a 12-channel 1200-watt-amp.
Electronic On-Demand AWD
A rear-mounted electric motor controls the all-wheel-drive system instead of a traditional transfer case and driveshaft. Power is sent to the rear wheels when needed up to 80%. The system also assists with cornering by reducing understeer and varying torque distribution.
Interior
An 8-way power driver seat is standard on all trims that also has a slid-away function, which moves the seat back when the driver exits the vehicle. Limited trims also get a 4-way power adjustable passenger seat.
Heated front seats are an available option. Ventilated (a/c) seats come as standard on the Limited trim.
2021 Venza’s will also get Lexus’s S-FLOW technology which directs air conditioning only to seats that are occupied. This help with reducing energy used by the vehicle.
Star GazeTM Electrochromic Glass Roof
Another first for Toyota, in the 2021 Venza, a Star GazeTM roof is available that has electrochromic glass technology. This allows the driver to change the look of the glass from transparent to frosted with the touch of a button.
Toyota anticipates the 2021 Venza as being available in summer 2020. If you’d like more information on the new crossover, contact your local Toyota dealership.
