The 2017 Denver Auto Show gave us a real life glimpse of the brand new Volkswagen Atlas, which is a pretty huge deal for VW. We were able to grab a quick interview with William Gock, Senior Specialist in Product Communications fro Volkswagen of America Inc. Here’s what he had to say.
William Gock from VW says,
“We are really excited about the Atlas. The Atlas is our first 7 passenger SUV, it’s going to bring us into a wholes new segment in the US that we haven’t been playing in before and we are coming in with a really really great product. The Atlas is built in America for America, its’ going to be assembled in our plant in Chatanooga, Tennesse. It will be arriving in dealerships this May. You’ll be able to get it with a 4 cylinder and a 6 cylinder. Prices will be starting just north of thirty grand for the 4 cylinder model. The 6 cylinder starting at mid-thirty-one. So yeah, it marks a really exciting time for us moving from a small car brand to more of a full-line manufacturer. We have the Atlas, and we will also have our brand new Tiguan coming right on the heels of it this summer”.
Is the VW Atlas four wheel drive?
We then mentioned to Will, that we are based in Wyoming and Nebraska. So we asked if the Atlas has the 4motion four-wheel-drive system in it. Will then replied, “both engine choices will have the all-wheel-drive system option, yes. It won’t be standard but it will have the option on all levels of trim. We also couldn’t resist asking if there would be a diesel involved in this vehicle. Will replied with a smile, “no there is not”.
