A bigger VW Tiguan
2018 marks the year of some bigger vehicles for Volkswagen with their all-new Atlas ( aka. At last) which is a stylish 7 seater SUV. Maybe you don’t quite need something that big though. Well here comes the long-wheelbase Volkswagen Tiguan. With the option of a third row or up to 57 percent more cargo space, there’s more room for minions of the child variety or another suitcase.
The current Tiguan is already a fairly comfortable ride for long journeys, that is if you’re up front. Not so much for the rear seat passengers unless you are the size of a leprechaun. Short distance is fine, sure but if it is imperative that you take the in-laws to Jackson for the summer, you may consider the long wheelbase option. Sliding rear seats provide extra leg room when all the way back for the 2nd row or move them forward for extra room in the cargo or 3rd row area.
All wheel drive
Yes, 4Motion (VW’s AWD name) is available as an option with the Active Control system that features four selectable modes. So if you are reading this from the mountains you are probably want to go with that option.
Connectivity
Available Volkswagen Car-Net® system provides;
- App-Connect technology
- Apple CarPlay™
- Android Auto™
- MirrorLink®
- Fender® Premium Audio
Engine
The Tiguan will get the 2.0-liter turbocharged TSI® engine, which puts out 184 horsepower and 221lb-ft torque with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Safety
Of course, you’ll want to take care of the in-laws and/or the minion’s safety on that road trip to Jackson, so here are the specs as per Volkswagen. “… the Tiguan now offers a comprehensive suite of driver assistance technology. A rearview camera comes standard and available features include: Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), upgraded for use in stop and go traffic; Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist) with Pedestrian Monitoring; Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert; and Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist), which actively helps the driver steer the car back into its lane should the vehicle start drifting into another lane without using the turn signal.
In addition, the 2018 Tiguan offers a combination of both passive and active safety systems that are engineered to meet or exceed current crash regulations. These systems include the class-exclusive Automatic Post-Collision Braking System”. 1.
