Welcome, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Now its fifth generation, and one of the most awarded SUVs ever, the new design offers a modern look with sophisticated features.
Built in the USA at the Mack assembly plant in Detroit Michigan, the new Grand Cherokee will be available in the fourth quarter of 2021. Trim levels are; Laredo, Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit. Here, we’ll cover some of the new features, and which trim levels you need to get those features.
Technology
Jeep Brand Chief Executive Officer, Christian Meunier said, “The Jeep Grand Cherokee is our global flagship and will be leading the Jeep brand into a new era of premium refinement, innovative technology, advanced 4×4 capability, and electrification.“
Here are some of those innovative technology features available;
A 10.25-inch front passenger interactive screen
Available as an option on all trims with the exception of the base model Laredo, has navigation, camera viewing, and visual entertainment.
Rear Seat Entertainment
A High-Definition Rear Seat Entertainment System consists of two 10.1-inch touchscreen with built-in Amazon Fire TV, USB, and HDMI ports. Available as an option on all trims except Laredo.
Uconnect 5
The latest Uconnect system from Jeep comes in higher resolution and with faster processing power on all trims. Laredo and Limited trims get an 8.4-inch touchscreen with voice text reply, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, Amazon Alexa, SiriusXM360L, and dual phone connectivity.
2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk and Overland models come standard with Uconnect 5 NAV, which adds navigation, Sirius XM Guardian, Traffic, and Travel Link.
Standard on the Summit trim is Uconnect 5 on a 10.1-inch touchscreen.
A 10.1-inch screen with Uconnect 5 NAV is available on Limited, Trailhawk, and Overland models as part of the Entertainment Group package.
Safety
Jeep says there are more than 110 Safety and Security features (the most available in its class in North America).
Active Driving Assist System
The Active Driving Assist is a system that allows for hands-on automated driving. Using radar sensors, the system helps keep the vehicle in the center of the lane as well as keeping a set distance from the vehicle directly in front. This system comes as standard on the top-of-the-range Summit model. It is also available on the Overland model as part of the Advanced ProTech package.
Hands-free active driving will be an option (late availability). The system allows for miles of hands-free driving on approved highways.
Night Vision
A night vision camera with pedestrian and animal detection is available on Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit models as part of the ProTech package.
Drowsy Driver Detection
Standard on Summit models, Drowsy Driver Detection looks for patterns in vehicle movement and can send alerts (audio and visual) to the driver.
Electric Grand Cherokee 4xe
The first step into an electrified Grand Cherokee, the 2022 model has a Plug-in hybrid option available. Equipped with a 2.0L inline 4 turbocharged hybrid powertrain, the target range is 443 miles combined. There are 3 E-Select drive modes; Hybrid, Electric, and e-save. All-electric range is 25 miles and combined fuel efficiency is estimated to be around 57 MPGe.
Max towing capacity with 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe is 6,000lbs.
4xe is up for grabs on the Limited, Trailhawk, Overland, Summit, and Summit Reserve trims.
Engines
- 3.6L Pentastar V6 (293 horsepower) with 8-speed automatic transmission
- 5.7L V8 (357 horsepower) with 8-speed automatic transmission
- 2.0L turbo I-4 PHEV (4xe)
Off-Road and 4×4 Systems
When it comes to off-road systems, there are three different 4×4 systems for the 2022 Grand Cherokee. They are; Quadra- Trac I, Quadra -Trac II (two-speed transfer case), and Quadra-Drive II.
Laredo and Limited get the Quadra-Trac I. Overland trims get the Quadra-Trac II system standard (can be upgraded to Quadra-Drive II as part of the Off-Road Group package.
Trailhawk and Summit models get the Quadra-Drive II system which includes a rear-axle electronic limited-slip differential
Quadra-Lif Air Suspension comes standard on Trailhawk, Overland and Summit trims. With this air suspension, the Grand Cherokee can achieve a class-leading 11.3-inches of ground clearance. 24 inches of water fording is also possible (4 inches more than the previous model).
Trailhawk
For even more off-road prowess, the Trailhawk models come with; class-exclusive sway bar disconnect, all-terrain tires, Selec-Seed Control (for 4LO, high-strength steel skid plates, 18-inch wheels, red tow hooks, and a ‘Trailhawk’ hood decal.
Trailhawk 4xe
Differentiating the hybrid Trailhawk, this 2022 Grand Cherokee gets blue tow hooks, blue-accented 18-inch wheels, and a black and blue ‘Trailhawk’ hood decal. Ground clearance is 10.9-inches, water fording 24-inches, and the crawl ratio is 47.4:1.
