How to use the Ram Power Wagon Winch

The RAM 2500 Power Wagon is the only truck that comes standard with a winch from the factory. The WARN winch is a recovery tool that is capable of winching up to 12,000lbs. Last summer, I was lucky enough to test out the truck on an off-road course in Colorado. The video and article for that is here. Read on to learn how to use the Power Wagon winch.

What Do The Numbers On Tires Mean?

What Do The Numbers On Tires Mean?

What do the numbers on the side of your tires mean?

The number and/or letters on the side of your tire, essential mean size, but there are factors to consider too.

Why you should know the numbers on your tires

Unless you are upgrading or changing the rims on your vehicle you should always try to stay with the same size tire as what came with the vehicle from the factory. Whilst you may take it to a tire technician to replace them and he will know what the numbers mean, you may end up in a situation one day where you need to know what you are looking at. It’s always useful when price matching or shopping around too. You won’t be able to get an accurate price without knowing the size.

The first three numbers represent the tire width. This number would something like, ‘215’ or on our diagram it is 275 which quite a wide tire. This is the measurement from the outside (facing the world) of the tire to the inside of the tire (facing the inside wheel arch of your vehicle). A tire with 215 written as the first three digits, means the tire is 215mm wide.

There will be a forward slash (/) to separate the next numbers. Two numbers that follow the forward slash represent the profile of the tire, or also known as the aspect ratio. This is a two digit number that is a measurement of the height of the cross-section of the tire to its width. The lower this number, the more your tires will look like rubber bands. The higher this number, they will look more towards a tractor tire. This number is usually somewhere from 35 to 90. Somewhere around 60 is about average. These numbers will end in 0 or 5.

  • Next will be a letter or two letters that describe the construction of the tire. This is most always an ‘R’ for passenger type vehicles, which means radial. In our picture, there are the letters ‘ZR’ which means the tire is a performance radial for high speeds.
  • The last two digits will be the rim size. So in our pic, ’20’, is at the end. This means the rim size is 20″.

The rest of the numbers/letters spread around the tire represent some other important information such as;

  1. Load rating
  2. Speed rating
  3. DOT symbol
  4. TIN
  5. UTQG
  6. Traction grades
  7. Temperature grades

There are no photos available yet from GMC press on those colors in the 1500 Sierra, however, a similar mahogany color was used back in 2016. It looks to be a brownish color with a hint of purple. Then new red color looks to be a lot brighter than the Crimson red.

What Would You Get On Your Prestige Plate?

What Would You Get On Your Prestige Plate?

Want to spice up your car with a nice plate?  Now that there is a new WY license plate out with the Green River Lake and Squaretop Mountain design, new prestige plates are available.

What is a prestige plate?

A prestige plate is a license plate for your vehicle that you can customize the numbers and/or letters on. Sometimes known as private plates, personalized plates, or vanity plates.

How much do they cost?

Aside from all the other costs associated with going to the DMV to pay sales tax etc, just the costs for a prestige plate is $30. If you want to spend more, embossed plates are available for extra $50.

What letters/numbers will be on there as standard?

You county number will be on there. Pickup trucks and commercial vehicles will now have a ‘T’ for truck or ‘C’ for commercial after the county number, before the bucking horse logo. County’s with two digits will now have those number stacked. For example, Fremont County will now have the 1 at the top left and the 0 bottom left to represent county 10.

What can I have on my prestige plate?

private number

You can have most combinations of up to 5 characters. A combination of letter numbers and spaces are allowed. For example, if you are a manager, you could have ‘MANGR’. Love your Jeep? How about ‘JEEP’. Live in Sheridan and work as a barber, you could use the county 3 number as a B and make something up like ‘3- ARBER’. There are literally endless combinations of what you could come up.

Restrictions include;

  • Must be capital letters
  • No symbols
  • No more than three W’s or M’s (presumably because it’s hard to read?)
  • Not just numbers unless the first number is a 0
  • All numbers followed by a single letter (example of not allowed 11A, 12B, 123C)
  • Nothing “obscene, vulgar, indecent, or pruriently suggestive”
  • Duplicates are also not allowed

So other than those terms, that still leaves a huge number of possibilities for you to choose from.

Exempt vehicles

Vehicles for sale, or licensed demonstrators at dealerships. Radio Amateur plated vehicles, apportioned vehicles, and ones with specialty plates.

Where do I get prestige plates?

You can contact your local county clerk for more information, or print out an application form online.

The easiest way is to order online. To see if the combination you want is available, check out the DMV website here.

What combination would you get?
