Dodge Demon

You might have heard some people in the hallway recently talking about a fast car called the Dodge Demon. Yes, it’s true and there’s hype because it’s a really fast car.

A really fast car that you can buy from a dealership that is made in a factory with others alike. Only 3000 in the first year to be made in the U.S. mind you. It’s not a supercar or a track car.

What’s different is that it’s a muscle car you can drive to go get the groceries and hit the drag strip on your way home. You may have to drive slowly down the drag strip though (maybe bring the black key and not the red one) because the car is so fast it has actually been banned by the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association).

Banned?

The NHRA have banned the Dodge Demon from competing due to the fact it broke the 10-second barrier. That means the car completed a 1/4 mile drag race in under 10 seconds. The Demon’s official 1/4 mile time is 9.65 seconds and reaches 140mph by that time. The NHRA guidelines are that a car with a time of fewer than 9.99 seconds must have extra safety features such as a roll cage, window nets, and presumably fireproof clothing/helmet for the driver etc.

Spec sheet that will blow you away

  • 840hp 770lb-ft torque
  • 6.2-liter HEMI®
  • 0-60 2.3 seconds
  • G-Force acceleration 1.8g
  • 2.7-liter per rev supercharger

Oh and it does come with a warranty! 3yr/36,000 mile limited vehicle warranty and a 5yr/60,000mile powertrain warranty. One might assume that that is only valid if no other modifications are made…but what would you modify anyway, there’s nothing left!

If you want to run the fastest times (not sure on which strip, with it being banned) but you can’t take your granny, because you’ll want to go with the passenger and rear seat delete option to save weight.

So when will we see the “World’s fastest quarter-mile production car” in showrooms? It’s not likely they will stay in showrooms very long, these cars are probably going to be in and out of the showroom faster than the NHRA banned it.
